My Story

My inspiration for writing my debut novel really predates any one moment, but instead

is the accumulation of an entire lifetime spent surronded by a deep sense of belonging

to a heritage which I cherished. When I was baptized at Philadelphia Presbyterian

Church as a baby alongside my twin sister, Brooke, it represented seven consecutive generations of my family to have been done brought into that church family. Through my mother's side of the family, I have inherited a Scots-Irish Presbyterian lineage that mirrored that of PPC to - at least, 1822.

I grew up amongst rolling hills and deep roots; a regional pride and an abiding love for the traditions we inherited. The story of the Mecklenburg Declaration and the journey of James Jack is the quientessential tale of the Carolina common-man: the humble farmer, the faithful christian, and the loyal patriot. The "truth" around the Mecklenburg Delaration is a debate that has presisted, and will hopefully remain a relevant topic for scholars to argue long into our nation's future. One critical reality of our heritage that the story of the Mecklenburg Declaration has captured accurately is the genuine love of God, family, and country that produced an impossible courage amongst a generations of bona fide American patriots: ministers, laymen, and soldiers alike.

It is a tremandeous honor to be able to contribute one small page to our most enduring and significant myth; to pay homage to the real - and imagined, heroes of our past.
